About a year ago I read something on The Student Room (an online forum for students) about matched betting and filed it away under "Something to do on a rainy day" well today I should have been revising for my university exams but instead for some reason or other got really
interested in this.
I read a lot on Money Saving Expert about the thing and thought I would take a stab at it.

So this is my diary...
Today I downloaded BetFair the online betting exchange and deposited £25, I then went to William Hill and deposited another £25. (This is all after a nice little present from the taxman to allow me to look in to money making ideas)! So I then went on to William hill
and looked at games starting soon and saw an NBA game from the Lakers vs Portland at 2.4 odds that Lakers would win. I placed £25 on this and a lay of £16 at 2.56 (so my liability was £24.96) on BetFair. Currently they have not played and are due to start in about 1 hour. I will report back later on today how they have done. Bonsoir tous le monde!
Okay, big mistake! I forgot that you only get your £25 free bet at BetFair if your first bet is a
LOSS, daaamn.
So last night the team I backed to win on WilliamHill lost meaning my lay bet on BetFair won. Damn him! But I have learn't from it!
So from that I lost the £25 at the bookies and won £15.20 plus my stake at betfair so with the £9 still in there I made a loss of £9.80. Stupid mistake.
Okay, new day (though technically still the same!)! I made a bet on William Hill with my £25 free (SNR-Stake not returned) bet on Sela to beat Raonic (tennis) at 4.4 odds and made the lay at Betfair at 4.5 for the same amount (in hindsight and reading a bit more I realised what I did with the lakers game was so unbelievably wrong it was rediculous, I made my liability the same as my bet... I know I'm a tool!).
So the guy who was odds on loser... lost.
From that I didn't lose anything at the bookies and won £19.64 at BetFair.
So for the day: £19.64-£9.8=£9.84 profit. Should have been £10 more but a moronic mistake by me cost it.
